Common Design Mistakes

  • The circular scutes/scales running down the side of the body must be horn color. (The ones that connect to the belly.)

  • The top/back of wing must be brown. The bottom/under the wing can have colors though.

  • They have light scleras (whites of eyes.) So if you choose to draw scleras make sure they’re light.

  • The markings in the legs must be brown.

  • Horns cannot be bright colors (unless plated or painted.)

History

Long ago the ancestors to the Hollowwings escaped from Pyrrhia to Pyropyga along with some Mudwings, Rainwings, and Seawings just before the scorching began. Some stragglers showed up after the scorching, bringing knowledge of how the newly formed tribe system worked.

After a few hundred years new dragons stopped showing up and information on how to travel between the continents was lost and the dragons changed. So did their language which they call Tarragon now.

Hollowwings evolved to be small cat like dragons with colorful wings but brown bodies. They have advanced quite far, having similar technology to our renaissance era. They are neighbors with the only other tribe on the continent, the Moorwings.

The two tribes have had their wars in the past but currently are at peace currently.

About 8 years ago travel between Pyrrhia, Pantala, and Pyropyga were reestablished. There’s some tensions with the language and cultural differences.

The current year is 5900 AS.

Territory

General Territory: A majority of the Hollowwing’s kingdom is filled with dense forest. The deeper into the forest one goes the darker and cooler it gets, there’s even some glowing plant life that can be used to provide light. During spring and summer the trees are nearly impossible to see or fly through; so the Hollowwings climb and run along tree limbs or fly above the canopy. During fall and winter the tree’s leaves thin out and they can fly a bit better in the forest. They also have some mountains, hills, and large rivers on their land. Their kingdom borders the Moorland kingdom and they both share the territory of the White Water Gulf talon as they have a meeting spot there and a town called Unity where both tribes live peacefully.
-
Queen Redwood’s Palace: This palace is located in a large clearing in the curve of a meandering river. The palace stands tall, taller than the trees around the palace, like a beacon of the forest. The bottom of the palace holds a large area for a museum, shops, and a school. The more you climb the palace the less open to the public it is. It goes to guards, advisors and council dragons, to the royal family area near the top. The palace is built with dark stones carved to resemble the bark of trees.
-
The Tar Pits: The tar pits are large lakes of tar. It’s very dangerous to walk around as the tar sometimes can be covered by leaf litter. It is recommended to either stay well above the ground or stay away fully unless you have permission from the correct council members. Many fossils from the Hollowing and Moorwing ancestors have been found here along with many animals and plants. It’s a hot spot for curious dragons.
-
Unity: Unity is a large town half in the Woodland kingdom and half in the Moorland kingdom. The town is bustling with dragons from both tribes that live peacefully on the edge of an evergreen forest. There’s a small palace that borders the moors and the forest where the Queens will occasionally meet. Otherwise the palace is used as a museum and public center.
-
Dragon horn Mountains: These are the mountains on the ‘nose’ of the continent. They aren’t as tall as the Dragon’s Teeth mountains. These mountains are covered in trees and are much older than the other mountains. (Imagine the Appalachian mountains.)
-
Claws of the Sea: This area is the dragon’s western most ‘talon’ where a large delta is located where many large rivers feed put into the ocean. They’re isn’t many trees here except low lying ones and shrubs due to lots of storms. It’s a great place to go fishing or explore but the risk of dangerous storms is real.
-
The Tree Walker Town: The town of Tree Walkers is a small scavenger town located in the northern part of the forest. They live in tree houses. Scavengers are quite rare so the Hollowwings study them and how they live. They are also called Walkers by Hollowwings, not scavengers. The Hollowwings even give them little gifts at times to aid them; like giving a bird some straw to watch them nest with it.

Basic Information

Depicted above is an average Hollowwing

Current Queen: Queen Redwood
-
Description: Hollowwings are brown dragons with a row of brighter colored scales ranging from the whole color spectrum down their neck and tail. They have unique talons which have retractable claws; which are known to be extremely sharp since they don’t have as much wear from walking. Hollowwings have long thick tails which help them keep balance while walking in trees. Their long curved claws on their wings also help them navigate the trees. Using the claws to hook small branches while they move about, stabilizing the dragon. These dragons have yellow to yellow-orange blood which give off a slight sulfuric smell when it is exposed. If left on a dragon’s scales for long enough it will cause irritation. This blood also makes their ears and tongue yellow. The spines running down the Hollowwing run from the head to the base of the neck before ending and showing up again at the base of the tail. These spines are not their own separate thing from the neck scales, they’re just protrusions. They also have rounded horn protrusions running down their neck belly and tail which are usually the same color as their horns.
-
Life Span: Hollowwings can live over 150 years with ease, sometimes even 200 years if in peak health.
-
Diet: Hollowwings are omnivores and eat about anything that can be considered food. They often eat fruits, roots, and whatever they can hunt or fish up. Often they manage to take down deer, moose, geese, and large rodents like beavers. They often will cook these foods in many ways such as roasted goose or beaver soup. They Don’t have fire breath to start fires but they use flint to start fires. They also refrigerate food with large ice blocks brought up from the south.
-
Abilities: Hollowwings have razor sharp retractable claws which allow them to slice through scales and climb trees with ease. They also have wonderful night vision as the forest’s canopy tend to be very thick and dark.
They have no breath weapon but their blood has a sulfuric smell and irritates the scales of dragons who are bled on.
Animus powers can be found in Hollowwings though it is rare. Any animus Hollowwing will be taken into the palace to be properly trained and watched so they don’t use their powers for bad.
These dragons are very smart and crafty. They have very opposable talons with claws that Don’t get in the way. They make traps, have the use of flint for fire, sailing boats, books, bows and arrows, and even a well built society that allows disabled and abled body dragons to live easily.
Holllowings do have the occasional animus dragon. They are mostly found in the royal family but there has been cases of of animus dragons not from the royal bloodline.
-
Names: Hollowings are commonly named after trees and plants. Some examples are; Redwood, Sycamore, Cypress, and Pine. Names can also be like; Bark, twig, moss, and so on. Hollowings have been named after some animals that would live in their woods, though not as common. Some of these names are; Puma, Bob-cat, and Bear.
